2009 SW Regional Championship Bid Information

5/18/2008 Clubs in the Region-
As earlier mentioned, the time frame to accept bids has closed.
One bid was presented at the 2008 Regional Meeting, where we also had another incomplete bid. Due to this a motion was made to keep the bidding period open until the start of May. The incomplete bid never surfaced, but we did get one other bid, leaving us with a total of two possibilities for the location for the 2009 SW Regional Championships.

Terry Fisk has put links on the Regional webpage to download the basic information on each bid. Please review the choices with your club members, and e-mail the votes to myself at schhgsd@att.net or Terry Fisk at terry@firecreeks.com by Sunday, June 1st at midnight to be considered.

The links are under NEWS, at the following location:

SW Region-

Phoenix Schutzhund Club is requesting $400 total from the Regional Treasury to reimburse two helpers from the 2008 Regional Championships.

In the past, we have voted on this during the Regional Meeting and it has been passed.

Below you will find PSC's motion requesting funds. Each club contact may vote YES or NO, please note which club you are voting for, and send votes to our regional secretary terry@firecreeks.com by midnight on March 14th, 2008.

Michelle Kutelis

Formal Motion

The Phoenix Schutzhund Club is formally requesting monies from the SW Regional treasury to compensate the Regional Helpers for the 2008 SW Regional Championship.
======================================================================

1. PSC paid Michael Stackhouse $200.00 out of their funds to compensate him
   for travel.
2.PSC would like the Region to pay Troy Daen $200.00 for being a SchH 3 helper
at the Regionals. PSC paid him $50.00 of that so he had gas money to get home
since he had expected to get paid at the close of the trial.
3.Trial Chairman discussed with Josh Zapporalli his willingness to give his $200.00
(since he was local) to Lionel Madden to cover his expenses. Although Lionel
ended up doing the SchH 1 and 2's we thought this would be fair. If the Region
chooses not to pay Lionel then we would request that Josh receive the $200.00 for
   being a SchH 3 helper.

2/25/2008 Message from Marie Weller Assistant Regional Director

I would like the region to Welcome our Newest Club, the Tucson Working K9 Club.  They had their affiliation Trial this past Saturday 2/23/08.  They had a total of 9 entries- 1- TR 1, 4- BH's, 1- SchH 1, 2- SchH A's, 1- SchH 3.  This appears to be a great group of people, eager to learn and compete in this sport.  It was great to see members of Phoenix SchH Club there in support and helping in the group and the Protection field set up.

I would like to thank Cornelia Grabichler, Al and Tish Coit for their generous hospitality, as well as all the other very helpful and gracious club members for their sportsmanlike conduct and willingness to learn.

I wish this club the best and encourage anyone who can to attend their up coming and approved "Real" trial on March 14-16, 2008 with USA Judge Johannes Grewe."

Thank you,

Marie Weller

2/13/2008 Message from the Regional Director

First of all, I would like the thank Phoenix Schutzhund Club for a well hosted Regional event. I was only able to make it out for part of Friday and Saturday, and the meeting of course, but enjoyed the time I did have there.

I will certainly miss that location for future trials, and I wish the members of the club the best in this next chapter of their lives. I hear that the Banquet dinner was a spectacular event, and not a dry eye in the place. I am very sorry to have had to miss it.

We had a very productive meeting, with some exciting new motions that passed. Look for our webmaster and Secretary to get these up on the website soon.

I will also have an announcement concerning the 2009 Regionals coming up in the next day or so.

I want to thank Marie Weller, the ARD, for filling in for me this last month while I dealt with some family health issues. She will continue handling the Trial Authorizations, but I am back in office as RD.

WUSV 2008 Trophy Sponsorship December 6th is the last day for club input.

We, as a region, have an opportunity to sponsor one of the trophies for the 2008 WUSV held here in the USA.

The cost of the trophy sponsorship is $250.

I would like to have the region decide if we would like to do this, and the easiest way at this point is to e-mail votes.

I think the trophy is a wonderful idea, and urge you all to discuss this matter with your club members and e-mail your vote to the Terry Fisk, SW Regional Secretary, at terry@firecreeks.com by Thursday Dec. 6th.

Regional Director Southwest Region

To the Southwest Region:

Sorry this has taken me a while to get up and out, but for some reason my schedule got really busy since returning from Atlanta.

First if you have not seen this already, here are some highlights from the Annual meeting:

The USA General Board Meeting was held on Thursday November 8, 2007. Some highlights …
  • Proposed amendment that would eliminate Directors-at-large was not approved.
  • Felony Prohibition for Teaching Helpers Approved
  • Approval of Artificial Insemination for USA Registry
  • 2008 National Events
The HOT & NA events will be combined in 2009.
  • Proposed bylaw amendments prohibiting convicted felons from holding office as members of the EB, officers, regional officers and judges passed. Waiver (proposal 5) passed.
  • Laurie Tollifson was recognized for her outstanding work on developing USA's registry. Laurie contributed innumerable hours on this project, gratis, for USA.
  • A quorum of 35 club delegates was seated.
Our region had 2 club delegates seated ( Scottsdale SchH Club, West Coast Sch Club) as well as Nathaniel Roque as Director at Large and myself as Assistant Regional director.
Our region has been approached by the National Events committee and is being requested to host a national event in the near future.  As noted above the HOT and North American events will be a combined event beginning in 2009.  I feel this is something our region does need to consider putting together.  Der Hundesport did an excellent good job in 2001 hosting the North Americans with some assistance from local clubs.  If we as a region could come together, I have a good feeling we can put on a great event.  This is something we need EVERY club in the region to review with their membership and bring ideas to the table at our Regional Meeting in February 2008.

Nationals is being hosted in Texas next year, lets see if we can have a few more clubs represented and in turn have more say for our region.

Also, if anyone is interested in any of the USA committees please contact me as the Nomination committee will be looking for new faces for the coming year and 2008 has a larger slate of potential openings.

New Southwest Region Yahoo Group Thank you to Karen Groh for setting this up.

In an effort to bring our region closer together, we have put together a Yahoo e-group.  We invite *all* members of the Southwestern Region to join, whether you are a member of a local club or not.

This is a great place for announcing seminars, trials, shows, or just "come on out and train at our place this weekend" type of notices. It will also enable the SW "free agents" to stay in touch with what's happening in our region. It can also be an excellent way for all SW Region members to be heard in matters that count.

Please forward this e-mail to club members and other people in our Region who may be interested.

10/31/07 From the USA website
Trial Secretary Tutorial

Your club has a trial coming and they need a trial secretary. What are you gonna do? Gail Kendall from the Phoenix Schutzhund Club has distilled her long experience into a 30 minute tutorial on how to handle that task. From setting up the entry forms, the judge's sheet and the final listing of the scores and titles, this outstanding presentation covers it all! Getting the paperwork completed correctly is a huge task in the USA office. Chasing down corrections on the forms is a major effort. If all the forms came in correct and complete, it would free a significant amount of resources to better serve the USA membership. The tutorial is about 30 minutes long. You will need to have the Flash plug-in available on your computer to play it. Most browsers already have this installed.

Click here to view the tutorial.

3/21/2007

As many of you know I placed a  motion with USA to allow micro chips to be allowed for identification in USA events. Some clubs and members have been asking about getting a scanner that will read the chips and one of my club members found this unit available and we have one at our club now. It is an excellent unit and well made. It will read all of the European and domestic chips. We have used it at our events and our regional and it worked well on chips from the Netherlands, Belgium and both Home Again and Avid.

Universal Scanner Information

This Swiss-engineered reader is in full accordance with ISO Standard 11785. With the ability to read both 125 kHz 10 digit and the 134 kHz 15 digit microchips. It is truly the most universal reader available today. If your pet does not have the proper microchip (also known as "transponder") you run the risk that the immigration authorities in that country will not allow you to enter the country with your pet. Our scanner is universal, and reads all transponders operating at 125, 128 or 134.2 kHz. To avoid any problems you can carry your own scanner which weighs less than 4 ounces and will then allow the immigration officer to read the transponder in your pet.

You can purchase the reader to carry with you on your travels or you can rent the scanner by the week.

Buy the Universal Scanner for $249.95 (less 15% discount for USA Members)

I contacted the owner of the company Jerry Hatfield of Pet Travel Stores www.pettravelstore.com and told him about USA and our need for scanners and he has agreed to give a 15% discount to USA members .  If you are interested in one of these scanners use coupon code "GS6MO" when purchasing any product from their store and you will recieve a 15% discount.

Please feel free to forward this to any USA member or club or post on the regional web sites.

I have no interest in this store and am in no way receiving any compensation for the sales of these or any other products. I am just trying to pass along a good deal to USA Members.

Thanks

Nathaniel

3/15/2007 The Regional site is back up and running after the transition to the new host and webmaster. Please let me know if there are any corrections, additions or other changes that need to be made.  Also, please remember that this is only a temporary format in order to get information to the members and it will undergo changes in the layout and look as I receive input from everyone.

The regional results and a few photos are up on the site and we will have more as soon as I get them from the trial photographers, Kristi Chesley and Roanna Banducci. They will also be contacting the competitors when the photos are ready.

This is your website. I need input from the clubs to update and add content and to make this website successful. Right now I am relying on the USA site for contact and event information but it is sometimes not up to date. Please send me your event information, changes in officers, announcements, etc. and it will be posted to the regional site in a timely manner. Clubs who do not have their own sites can contact me and I will be happy to create a page for them. Simply send me any information (board member, training information, etc.) that you would like to have published. Clubs who have existing sites will have links on the clubs directory page.

I look forward to working with everyone in the future.
